Study Procedure for MPhil / PhD Programs
- Entry Requirement
The candidate who is willing to study at Kathmandu University should meet all requirements according to the criteria of Kathmandu University.
- Written Exam and Interview
After meeting all the requirements, candidates must attend both the written exam and the interview. These are essential components of the selection process at Kathmandu University. The written exam consists of basic questions related to the program in which the applicant wishes to enroll, while the interview—conducted after the exam—helps the committee learn more about the applicant’s academic background, motivation, and suitability for the program.
For PhD applicants, the committee will first review the submitted research proposal and other academic documents. After this review, applicants are required to attend a written exam (if required), deliver a presentation based on their research proposal, and participate in an interview.

Strong candidates are selected through a process that includes written exams and interviews, while PhD students are shortlisted only after presenting their research proposals.
- Fee Structure of MPhil / PhD for international students at Kathmandu University
Students from SAARC countries need to bare 1.5 times more than the normal fee structure and students from other nations should bare double than normal fee structure of KUSOED.

Application process
- Digital copies of all your education certificates of school level and above
- The digital copy of your citizenship certificate
- In the case of non-Nepali applicants, the personal identification page(s) of a valid passport
- The digital copy of your recent passport-size color photograph
- Collect all the information required to fill up the fields included in the
- The digital copy of the bank voucher or the online payment transfer slip of NPR 2000 for the MPhil and PhD Program
- For PhD applicants, submission of your Curriculum Vitae (CV), a detailed Research Proposal, and a Research Papers document is mandatory.
There will be an application fee of NPR 2000 for the MPhil and PhD Programs, which must be deposited into the Kathmandu University (Account Name – KU-School of Education) bank account at Nepal Investment Mega Bank Limited (Account No. 00501030255578). The KU bank deposit slip with the account number is available at selected branches of this bank. The payment can also be made online through Connect IPS.

through any other online transfer system. In case of an online transfer of the application fee, the transfer slip or snapshot of the payment should be included with the application. More information on online payment through Connect IPS and other KU banks are available.
In the case of international students, they need to transfer USD 20$ to a bank account in Nepal Investment Bank Limited (account no. 00501030255578, swift code NIBLNPKT)
