Kathmandu University (KU) and Macquarie University have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance academic cooperation, research collaboration, and institutional exchange between the two universities.

The signing ceremony took place at the Kathmandu University School of Management in Balkumari, bringing together senior university officials, faculty members from various KU schools, and a top official from the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu.

Following the signing, Prof. Dr. Rajeev Shrestha, Registrar of KU, emphasized the importance of international partnerships in advancing academic excellence and research innovation. He expressed a keen interest in establishing collaboration between Macquarie University and all seven schools of KU.

Mr. Tanveer Shaheed, Director of International Recruitment at Macquarie University, highlighted Macquarie University’s commitment to fostering global collaboration and expanding opportunities for students and faculty.

Mr. Greg Klemm, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Australian Embassy, underscored the growing educational ties between Nepal and Australia, calling for a long-term engagement through schemes including the New Colombo Plan.

Prof. Dr. Achyut Wagle, Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University, expressed optimism about the future of the partnership and its potential to benefit both institutions. Prof. Wagle emphasised active internationalisation between the two universities through faculty exchange; exchange of ideas on the transfer of technology and knowledge from indigenous people; and professional exchanges focusing on entrepreneurship and innovation.

The newly signed MoU aims to facilitate joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchange programs, collaborative teaching, and knowledge-sharing across disciplines. It marks a significant step in Kathmandu University’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its global academic network. The MoU builds upon a series of academic engagements between KU and Macquarie University, which began in 2015.
