Kathmandu University (KU) has expanded its scholarship program in seven provinces, effective from this academic session, to cover 100% tuition fees for outstanding Grade 12 students. This initiative is a core policy developed by the Vice-Chancellor of KU to foster deeper engagement with provincial governments. The program's initiation and implementation are being directed by the Registrar of KU, who has tasked a dedicated team from the central office, school of science and from school of engineering for the execution.
This scholarship program will benefit a total of six deserving students from each provinces and is a testament to the collaborative spirit of the provincial governments and Kathmandu University. The application and selection processes are managed in close collaboration with the respective ministries in each province.
The program is being initiated and implemented with the support of several provincial ministries. This includes the Social Development Ministry in Koshi, Bagmati, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces; the Education and Culture Ministry in Madhesh province; and the Social Development, Youth and Sports Ministry in Gandaki province. This expansion has also received the kind cooperation and exceptional support from the Honorable Chief Ministers of both Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.
The university's leadership team for this vital effort includes Brajesh Mishra, Associate Director of AESA from the central office, as well as Dr. Shyam Sundar Khadka, Associate Dean of the School of Engineering (SOE); Malesh Shah, Exam Coordinator of SOE; and Dr. Ganga Ram Phaijoo, Assistant Professor of the School of Science (SOS).
The scholarships are available for undergraduate programs, including B.E. in Mining, Chemical, and Environmental Engineering; Bachelor in Health Informatics; B.Sc. in Environmental Science; and B.Sc. in Agriculture. The goal of this expansion is to strengthen Nepal's human resource capacity and provide quality higher education to students from diverse backgrounds. This collaboration aims to scale up the effort to include a significant number of programs in the coming years, ensuring a sustainable impact by fostering a new generation of skilled professionals who will contribute to local and national development from all seven provinces.
